About DLace
.. ... ....... @DirtyLaceDesign ... ...... -Founder of DirtyLace Designs, Artist and Designer- .... .......... .. Think of me as your bipolar friend. One day I'll show up in leather pants with a grungy oversized shirt and go on and on about modern design while taking a long island to the head. The next day I'll be sipping on wine in a feminine lace dress paired with brightly colored heels talking about the shortage of trees and beautiful art. And somewhere in between all that is a lot of sarcasm. This blog embodies my DirtyLace personality. Filled with personal thoughts, ideas, and inspirations that are drawn from fashion, art and design. Okay I’m back (I promise)
I am back from a much needed mental vacation.
Although I didn’t actually physically go anywhere..
My mind was going 31,476,398,163 miles an hour(to be exact) and then it just suddenly came to a halt. Nothing worked, no ideas were coming to me, no witty talk-backs, nothing. Which led to a whole lotta lack of motivation.
I didn’t necessarily stop working, but I stopped working in the manner I always had - which was to work with a dream oriented goal in mind, and not so much money driven.
And to be even more honest with you guys, I did make money this month. Probably one of my top more financially successful months I’ve had in a long time (although I think having 3 jobs might have something to do with it). Which only further confused my mind even more, because I made money while being unmotivated and creatively brain dead (not a good look for an artist/designer). And although money-driven can be a good thing to an extent, I don’t actually feel good working that way.
Not to mention that I was overwhelmed by technology. And let me tell you, I am NEVER overwhelmed by technology. I love technology. If I could, I’d marry it and give birth to more baby technologies…
LETS KEEP IT REAL
Here’s the thing… I am in no way shape or form, the only “fashion blog” on the Internet, I am one of many. However a vast majority of them have posts of extremely beautiful clothing that are extremely financially unattainable for say… 98% of the world.
Sooo what’s going on?
Hey guys
I wanted to take this opportunity to give you guys an update on my personal life..
I AM PREGNANT AND EXPECTING TRIPLETS
Haaaa just kidding
No really I’m kidding, I’m not pregnant.
On a serious note (not that triplets aren’t serious ? nevermind), I wanted to apologize for the scarce posts this week. I’ve actually taken on too many projects (shocker), bit more than I could chew and now I’m having a hard time swallowing.
One project consists of me partnering up with my mother on her export business. She sells [adorable] baby clothes to women in Brazil and I am now pulling looks and selling adult clothes along with her. (She was doing so well that I practically begged her to quit her day job of which she did).
I was explaining to a friend today, that selling to these girls is not the same buy/sell approach of say eBay or Etsy. It’s like an online community and the clients almost demand in having a relationship with their sellers. For the most part, there is a lot of chatting, a lot of catching up and then you finally talk business and exchange payments/merchandise. SO you can imagine where a good chunk of mine has gone this week !
But on a another note, DirtyLace.com is still very much my baby and top priority. And I have some exciting projects coming up for it ! (Which includes a super cute/awesome DIY for mother’s day)
Another project is that a dear friend of mine is traveling to Italy (let’s take a moment to be intensely jealous of her…..aaannd done) and has asked me to be her “JetSet Stylist” - which I love not only the unofficial title, but of course the ability to style someone for a long trip to ITALY ! So you can expect a lot of photos documenting this project :)
In the meantime, SOMETHING TO TRY THIS WEEKEND : ANYTHING NEW
Let’s forget fashion for a second…In light of this post and recent events, there’s a lot of “new” in my life. And new is good! New makes you see the old in a new light. When reevaluating the old, it helps you decide if it’s something you want to keep or replace for the new.
And by all means take this literally (like new workout clothes to help re-motivate you in staying healthy) or figuratively (like a new mental state to help you tackle an issue with a new perspective). And make it big or small ! Whether it’s something small like trying an Irish Carbomb (which I SO planned to do as this week’s post) or something big like changing your career path.
NEW IS GOOD.
Happy weekend
Love, DLace
NEW YORK PART 2 : You Should Stay In NYC by Robert Wohner
Some time ago I posted about my decision to move to NY, followed by an insightful and funny article by Ryan O’Connell
Well here is part 2 written by Robert Wohner :
” Dear You,
So you told me that you thought about leaving New York. Which, I suppose, plenty of transplants think of doing. It’s not the first time and probably won’t be the last.
Living in Bed-Stuy is precisely what one could have assumed living in Bed-Stuy to be like, just with more cat-calls from tough guys in groups wondering why you’re so rude for not welcoming their advances. Never has being around so many made you feel so alone. You thought you would have found your Miranda and Charlotte by now, not watching them on DVD wondering how a show could get so much right and wrong in the same season.
Every day it becomes clearer that New York is the greatest place to be when you matter but it’s the worst place to be when you don’t. Around every corner is a better apartment, or a better happy hour, or all the makings of a wonderful life you wish you had.
But I don’t think you should leave New York.
At least, not yet.
In your heart, you know you were not meant for an ordinary life. You flourish in a life surrounded by innovators and passionate people. You found that here.
There’s a life for you back home. It was pre-wrapped for you from birth. It’s comfortable, featuring your friends, your family, your car. It all sits waiting for you like a lottery ticket with the winning numbers unscratched. It’s tempting, no doubt.
There’s nothing magical about New York City. It is an amazing place just as there are amazing places everywhere, each with its own strengths and opportunities and disadvantages. You could have discovered and followed your passions in dozens of cities or towns. But for you, you knew in your heart that place was New York. And so you came.
Your nephew won’t ever remember you weren’t there for his birth. But one day you might find he’ll remember the time he visited his favorite aunt up north. The one who left home to make her name is the greatest place to make a name.
I hope you find solidarity knowing you are like so many others. You’re a special kind of person, the kind who decided to choose what their destiny would be, not have it laid out for them. Their New York might be in Los Angeles. Or Nashville. Or a sustainable farm in South America. That isn’t the point. The point is you didn’t commit to change because this city would make you the woman you wanted to be. You knew the woman you were. You know the woman you demanded yourself to become, and she belonged in New York.
Remember that CD you bought from those subway musicians at Lorimer? You paid ten dollars for only 5 songs. I told you that was a rip-off. You disagreed. You liked their music and wanted to support them in a simple way. You decided if those guys make their name outside of the subway system, you said you’d be glad to have been there when they had only the backs of people waiting for the next G train.
It is very possible that the financial, emotional, and physical toll this move to New York took on you will not be worth it. It is very possible that you will go home and resume being yourself as you would have otherwise been, understanding the life you had imagined isn’t a fairy tale. But when it comes to your success, I’d put ten dollars on you.
And I’d put ten dollars on your success happening here.

24 Life Lessons, Courtesy Of My Dog By Emil Caillaux
- You can choose not to run to get the ball, but it’s always a lot more fun if you do.
- Never underestimate the value of a simple plate of food and water.
- Sometimes it’s all right to roll over and let someone pamper you.
- Never bite the hand that feeds you.
- Make sure you stretch thoroughly before you get up.
- If a loved one is sad, approach slowly, cuddle up to them and wait for them to tell you what’s wrong.
- There are times you lead, and there are times you follow.
- Never discriminate. Cats can be a lot of fun to hang out with too.
- The best place to nap is under the sun.
- There is no bigger sign of affection and closeness than a big lick to the face.
- It’s OK to be overly excited about things that pass you by.
- Wading into water is good. Jumping in is infinitely better.
- Pick carefully where you go to the bathroom.
- A good run will always improve your day.
- Only bark when the situation warrants it.
- Leftovers are always delicious.
- If someone enjoys scratching your back, stick with them forever.
- Always know how to find your way back home.
- Take good care of your teeth.
- Loyalty is priceless.
- Someone hurts someone you care about, you run after them and make them pay.
- It’s all about opportunities: you’re not there, someone else gets the morsel.
- Even if you’re alone, there’s someone out there that’s thinking of you.
- Always go for what you want. “

ART & PHOTOGRAPHY : CARLI DAVIDSON’S [DOG] SHAKE SERIES
Growing up I had 4 dogs. One was a Pomeranian mutt that we named China, Zaira was our German Shepherd, Bolinha (which means little ball in Portuguese) was an all white mutt and we had a Doberman that we had to eventually give up for adoption since myself and my brothers were so young, the adults were afraid of it would hurt us (which I’m still not over! She was the sweetest).
They have all sadly passed away and I now have two chihuahuas, a grey female named Kyala Kiki and a black and white male named Moreno (which in Portuguese means brown/tanned/black).
For those of you whom have pets, dogs especially, Carli Davidson’s Shake series will hit home for you. The cute meter in this is cranked way high and she does an amazing job capturing it in a new way.
Dogs are truly a man’s best friend and there is [in my opinion] no other creature on this earth that is as selfless and conditional as a dog is.
Also make sure you check out more photos from this pet loving Photographer and from her Pets With Disabilities Project !
