About DLace

.. ... ....... @DirtyLaceDesign ... ...... -Founder of DirtyLace Designs, Artist and Designer- .... .......... .. Think of me as your bipolar friend. One day I'll show up in leather pants with a grungy oversized shirt and go on and on about modern design while taking a long island to the head. The next day I'll be sipping on wine in a feminine lace dress paired with brightly colored heels talking about the shortage of trees and beautiful art. And somewhere in between all that is a lot of sarcasm. This blog embodies my DirtyLace personality. Filled with personal thoughts, ideas, and inspirations that are drawn from fashion, art and design. Nicole Richie: “Everybody Should Wear Headpieces!”
Well, I am not sure that everybody should wear a headpiece (for some reason a bedazzled headpiece on say..a 70 year old grandmother might not fly…or maybe it could be totaly adorable. what do i know). But all of that aside, considering I have done a LV inspired headpiece DIY before, I more than agree with Nicole.
They’re whimsical and great way to dress up an otherwise simple outfit.
You can get the above headpieces here, here and here. Or visit my DIY (as seen in last photo) for instructions on how you can create your own !

GET INSPIRED BY ART : LIGHT EXPLOSIONS + LED CLOUDS DIY
The first set of photographs are by Joschi Herczeg and Daniele Kaehr, where the artistic team capture beautiful, exciting and explosive (literally) moments within an otherwise mundane, plain and common surrounding.
After seeing these photos I immediately remembered a really cute DIY I had come across some time ago. LED CLOUDS DIY is by WeddingHigh and surprisingly easy to do.
I wonder if the two know of eachother’s creations

DIRTYLACE DIY : D&G INSPIRED EMBELLISHED SOCKS
The Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2012 collection inspired some DIYs throughout the blogsphere (and even an outfit inspo) Most of the DIYs are of the collection’s rose headbands and earrings.
I don’t know about you though, but I was really gawking over the sheer black socks decorated in gold baroque styled designs via what seems to be machine sewing.
I had some small sheer organza favor bags lying around for some time now. I saved them because one had cute tiny gold stars and the other had gold roses and vines, and I figured I’d use it for something one day. The rose one worked out perfect for this DIY, because it was just the right size and the gold was really prominent.
GlitzOnline has a ton of great sequin iron ons you can use as an alternative. Or if you wanna try the organza look like I did, Sophie’s Favors and Favors And Flowers have some cute printed organza party bags you can use (it’s also cheaper than iron ons!).
I also added gold spikes from Studs & Spikes, because you can’t have the lace without the Dirty !
THE STEPS :
1. You will need a sewing needle, gold thread, gold rose appliques or iron ons, and a sheer or semi sheer pair of socks. If you don’t have a pair of sheer socks, you can cut out an old pair of tights that you have (which is what I did).
2. I used a large bottle of water to help me sew the roses on. The bottle helps you get a sense of how the sock will curve around your feet and it helps ensure you don’t sew through to the other side as well !
3. Carefully make small holes for the studs. Make sure you don’t make the hole too large or tug on the tights or it will tear. I used an exacto knife.
4. Hand sew/Iron on the applique. If you’re sewing, choose a matching gold thread and sew alongside the design so that it doesn’t look messy.
5. Add more studs if you’d like or layer the organza appliques over eachother like I did, until you get a more desired shape.
I WILL BE POSTING OUTFIT PHOTOS FEATURING THESE GIRLIES ON THURSDAY ! So be sure to check back.
Enjoy !

DIRTYLACE DIY : SWEATER BROOCH MADE OF VINTAGE SEA POTTERY
I saw the above photo of a girl during fashion week that was posted on Street FSN. I loved her sweater and how it was embellished with large aqua stones. But I couldn’t find it anywhere ! I don’t even know who the designer is (so please feel free to contact me with some info).
Regardless I felt like it would a great DIY and a fairly easy one as well.
I found these beautiful, large vintage sea pottery from the North Sea coast of Kirkcaldy, Scotland. I bought a package that came with 12 pieces from an Etsy shop called NorthSea Treasures. She has a great selection all with different colors and some in different prints. So I’ll definitely be shopping there again for other DIY’s.
The backing I used is from AC Moore and dumb cheap. I used Super Glue when attaching it to the back of the stones.
And that’s it ! It’s cool because it becomes a removable brooch (as opposed to what seems to be sewned on to the sweater from the above photo) ; which allows you to pin the stones on other garment pieces. Just be mindful that since the stones have some weight to them, it’s best to pin it on chunky sweaters so that it doesn’t tag on the fabric. Otherwilse you’ll end up with a saggy brooch (and nobody likes sagginess).

THINGS TO TRY THIS WEEKEND & DIY : Temporary Tattoos
I personally have a total of 7 tattoos, ranging from really small to my biggest one which is on my left rib. All of them have a story and are extremely meaningful to me most especially my rib one because it’s a tattoo of lace and serves as a reminder of my permanent commitment to DirtyLace Designs.
But every once in a while you see a really cute ink that makes you want to get it ! Except you don’t get it because you remember it’s permanent, and a random tat of a cute disney character might not fly with the 50 year old version of you.
So try a fake tat instead. It’s great for a night out or a concert or just for when you want to look a little more badass than usual (extra bad points if it’s on your neck).
You can purchase them or if you’re crafty, you can Do It Yourself like I did. I used black acrylic paint so I could easily wash it off.
In Love With Fashion has a selection of cute tats, most of which are less than $5.
Now go on with yo bad self !
Happy weekend,
DLace
