About DLace
.. ... ....... @DirtyLaceDesign ... ...... -Founder of DirtyLace Designs, Artist and Designer- .... .......... .. Think of me as your bipolar friend. One day I'll show up in leather pants with a grungy oversized shirt and go on and on about modern design while taking a long island to the head. The next day I'll be sipping on wine in a feminine lace dress paired with brightly colored heels talking about the shortage of trees and beautiful art. And somewhere in between all that is a lot of sarcasm. This blog embodies my DirtyLace personality. Filled with personal thoughts, ideas, and inspirations that are drawn from fashion, art and design. LETS KEEP IT REAL
Here’s the thing… I am in no way shape or form, the only “fashion blog” on the Internet, I am one of many. However a vast majority of them have posts of extremely beautiful clothing that are extremely financially unattainable for say… 98% of the world.
THINGS TO TRY THIS WEEKEND : HEAD SCARF + FEDORA HAT = WHOLE LOTTA AWESOME
You can mix and match the print on the scarf with the print on the fedora like I did. I kept it within the same color family. But solid colors work fine too.
Pair it with a crisp white tank, some torn jeans, sandals and all that jazz.
Extra cool points if you walk around holding a guitar.
Happy weekend !

THINGS TO TRY THIS WEEKEND : THE WET LOOK
As in the wet hair look [awkward pause…annnd moving on].
We all remember the gelled look. I tried it, you tried it, your mom probably tried it too.
The style has been making a comeback in a lot of runway shows and fashion editorials as well. But the “modern” way to nail it now is by combining it with a polished look. I.e. Something tailored (like a blazer) and with clean, crisp makeup so that the look is pulled together and intentional, rather than “oops didn’t feel like doing my hair this morning let me slather on some gel with my dirty hoodie and sneakers.”
There’s tons of great hair wax products out there. Although I heard that hair stylists use baby oil which makes the wet look last several hours.
My look was accomplished with a combination of a crap load of shine serum mixed with little gel and water. I personally don’t like using just gel. It’s crunchy and it feels like everyone can hear the crunchiness as I walk.
Give the wet look a try again.

DLACE + LOOKBOOK.NU = SKY BLUE
Neons have taken over my closet, but lately it’s sweeter cousin Pastel is demanding some attention. Look at that summer-sky blue and sweet little bows , aren’t they so cute? (shut up that wasn’t witty right? I blame it on my low caffeine intake today… coffee always made me funny)
If you are on Lookbook.nu we should be friends.

PS> I’ll explain why I am awkwardly touching my hair on tomorrow’s post.

DIRTYLACE DIY : SWEATER BROOCH MADE OF VINTAGE SEA POTTERY
I saw the above photo of a girl during fashion week that was posted on Street FSN. I loved her sweater and how it was embellished with large aqua stones. But I couldn’t find it anywhere ! I don’t even know who the designer is (so please feel free to contact me with some info).
Regardless I felt like it would a great DIY and a fairly easy one as well.
I found these beautiful, large vintage sea pottery from the North Sea coast of Kirkcaldy, Scotland. I bought a package that came with 12 pieces from an Etsy shop called NorthSea Treasures. She has a great selection all with different colors and some in different prints. So I’ll definitely be shopping there again for other DIY’s.
The backing I used is from AC Moore and dumb cheap. I used Super Glue when attaching it to the back of the stones.
And that’s it ! It’s cool because it becomes a removable brooch (as opposed to what seems to be sewned on to the sweater from the above photo) ; which allows you to pin the stones on other garment pieces. Just be mindful that since the stones have some weight to them, it’s best to pin it on chunky sweaters so that it doesn’t tag on the fabric. Otherwilse you’ll end up with a saggy brooch (and nobody likes sagginess).
